Before You Bring One Home

Everything to know about life with a VBN

An informed start makes for happy sheep.

What makes Valais Sheep so special?

Valais Blacknose sheep are known as the world’s cutest sheep—and for good reason. Their plush wool, teddy-bear faces, and calm personalities make them truly unforgettable. Beyond looks, they’re hardy, intelligent, and adaptable animals with a strong heritage originating in Switzerland.

Are your sheep purebred Valais Blacknose?

We focus on carefully selected Valais Blacknose genetics and are transparent about lineage, percentages, and breeding goals. Each lamb is evaluated for structure, fleece quality, markings, and temperament to ensure we’re producing animals that honor the breed standard while thriving in real-world farm conditions. All of our sheep, from our F2s-Fullblood are registered with the VBSS.

How are your lambs raised?

Our lambs are raised with hands-on care from day one. They are well socialized, accustomed to human interaction, and managed with low-stress handling practices. Healthy starts create confident, calm adults—and it shows.

What kind of care to Valais Sheep require?

They are relatively low-maintenance compared to many specialty breeds. Routine shearing, proper nutrition, parasite management, and basic hoof care are key. Their calm nature makes them easier to work with than many traditional sheep breeds. They do exceptionally well on small acreage when properly managed. Their friendly disposition makes them a great fit for hobby farms, breeders, agritourism operations, and families who want livestock with personality.

Can I visit before purchasing?

We also love when buyers want to meet the sheep and learn more about the breed. Farm visits may be available by appointment—just reach out to start the conversation. Too far away to drop by? SoCo Valais will always be willing to provide you with a personalized video of any lamb or sheep you may be interested in.

How do I reserve a lamb?

Reservations are typically accepted in advance and handled on a first-come basis. Contact us early if you’re hoping for a lamb from a specific breeding or season.
